Elliott Grayson set for PGA Tour Latin America debut

Shelby, NC. – Former Shelby High and University of Akron standout Elliott Grayson is set to make his PGA Tour Latin America debut this week in the 2020 Estrella del Mar Open in Mazatlán, Mexico. Grayson turned pro after competing in the 2019 U.S Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, NC and is set to compete in this week’s season opening event of the 2020 PGA Tour Latin America schedule. The Estrella del Mar Open field will consist of 144 players from 20 countries and will feature a purse of $175,000. Grayson will begin the four round event Thursday at 8:20am MT on the first hole of the Robert Trent Jones II designed course at Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort.
At Shelby High, Grayson was named the South Mountain Athletic Conference (SMAC) Player of the Year in 2011, 2013, and 2014. His postseason play helped Shelby secure the 2013 NCHSAA 2A West Regional Championship, and he was a Top-10 performer at the 2013 NCHSAA 2A State Championships. His junior career featured sixty-four tournament wins, including the 2011 Old North State Championship and the 2013 AJGA Preseason Junior at St. James Plantation.
At the University of Akron, Grayson appeared in all forty-five collegiate tournaments for the Zips from 2015-2019. During the 2016 Firestone Invitational, Grayson shot a 64 to tie the school’s record for lowest round to par. In 2018 & 2019, he was named to the Mid-American Conference’s (MAC) All-MAC team. He posted twenty-four Top 25 finishes during his career.
The 2020 Estrella del Mar Open is the first of fourteen events on the 2020 PGA Tour Latin America schedule. This year’s schedule will consist of tournaments in nine different countries across Latin America. The PGA Tour Latin America features a points-based Order of Merit system, with the top points-earners advancing to the Korn Ferry Tour, which provides a path to the PGA Tour.
